In June 2024, The Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability at Harvard University hosted Harvard Climate Action Week. Harvard Climate Action Week invites climate experts, leaders, and stakeholders to come together and explore solutions to the most complex and challenging dimensions of the climate crisis. Expert speakers included key This Is Planet Ed Partners who led discussions about the policies, private actions, and leadership needed to drive further reductions in U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Representative Carlos Curbelo, member of the K12 Climate Action Commission, took to the mainstage to discuss the importance of bipartisan consensus on climate action.
  • Amara Ifeji, member of the Planet Media Task Force, joined a panel of Gen Z leaders to discuss the importance of engaging, supporting, and empowering the next generation of climate leaders.
  • Senior Program Associate Michelle Faggert and K12 Climate Action Commissioner Dan Lashof joined an intergenerational conversation to discuss the various strategies and Inflation Reduction Act incentives that position public schools can leverage.

Although a variety of topics and solutions were addressed, there was a clear message that resonated across conversations: Institutions of higher education, including Harvard University, can take greater action on climate change.
